Ford distributes 140,000 free NACS EV charging adapters

Tesla announced plans to open up its Supercharger network to drivers of other brands’ EVs some years ago, but making this a reality remains a work in progress. EVs equipped with a CCS connector need an adapter to work with Tesla’s NACS (also known as SAE J3400) connector, and the Supercharger network’s software must be updated to support other brands, one EV model at a time.

In 2024, Ford became the first non-Tesla automaker to gain access to the Supercharger network in the US, and announced plans to provide complimentary NACS adapters to its customers. Now the company has wrapped up its adapter giveaway with the delivery of around 140,000 adapters.

The Ford Fast Charging Adapter, which Ford co-developed with Lectron, is now available for purchase for $200.

There’s no question that Ford EV drivers enjoy using the Supercharger network, which currently boasts over 2,500 sites with 30,000 individual chargers in the US. Ford says that, as of February 2025, Superchargers accounted for nearly 20% of all public charging visits by its customers.

“This year, it was easier to charge on the go,” said Mark and June Eakin, F-150 Lightning owners. “In fact, half of our road trip charging was at Tesla Superchargers, which allowed us to plan routes that would not have been practical last year.”

Ford EV drivers can also use the BlueOval Charge Network, which enables access to some 44,000 DC fast chargers operated by multiple charge point operators.
