Electrify America has opened a new public EV charging station in downtown Santa Barbara. Located on the site of a former Greyhound bus depot on Carrillo Street, the station offers 20 chargers, each with maximum charging power of 350 kW.
The site includes a 1.9 MW battery energy storage system (BESS), Electrify America’s largest public BESS deployment to date. The system stores energy from the electrical grid during periods of low demand and when solar energy is available, then discharges that energy during periods of high demand.
The station’s 20 chargers are equipped with CCS connectors. Later this summer, Electrify America plans to convert some of the CCS connectors to NACS as part of its ongoing NACS pilot program.

The Carrillo Street location is the company’s second station in Santa Barbara, and is one of Electrify America’s four large-format stations. Stations with 20 or more chargers are part of the company’s strategy to increase charging capacity as demand grows.
“This large-format station showcases the next evolution of charging infrastructure, combining high-power charging with integrated battery energy storage to deliver reliable capacity at scale,” said Rob Barrosa, President and CEO of Electrify America. “By incorporating battery storage technology, we’re able to bring Hyper-Fast charging to locations that have traditionally been difficult to serve.”
