London Metropolitan Police to manage EV charging with BetterFleet software

London’s Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has selected BetterFleet to provide a charge management system for its EV fleet. BetterFleet’s software will “ensure that frontline officers and their fleet teams can reliably plug in and charge EVs across depots and public networks, while giving MPS Fleet managers real-time visibility of charging status across the fleet.”

MPS operates a fleet of approximately 5,500 vehicles, around 30% of which are EVs or hybrids. The agency plans to add 250 more electric or hybrid vehicles and motorcycles in the coming year.

BetterFleet manages a significant share of London’s Go-Ahead Group’s electrified bus fleet and also supports large transit operators in cities such as Toronto, Boston and Sydney.

As MPS increases the number of charge points for its vehicles, it will use BetterFleet’s software platform to enable fleet managers to operate and monitor new charging locations through a unified management tool. Built on an enterprise-grade, SOC 2-compliant architecture, BetterFleet’s platform provides “a secure, resilient, and highly scalable platform designed to meet the cybersecurity and operational demands of large, mission-critical fleets.”

BetterFleet’s charge point management system (CPMS) enables authentication that works across depots and public networks. It can prioritize charging of individual vehicles, allocate charging costs to different vehicle groups and cost center, and enable MPS vehicles to participate in shared depot charging with other London-based fleets.
