California State Assembly wants to sweeten the pot for EV buyers

New legislation would make buying a new EV a little better deal, by allowing car dealers to roll the cost of level 2 chargers, including installation, into new car financing.

The California State Assembly has unanimously passed legislation that would make buying a new EV a little better deal, by allowing car dealers to roll the cost of level 2 chargers, including installation, into new car financing. Authored by Assembly member Bob Blumenfield, the bill now moves to the State Senate for further review.

“Electric vehicles must become a more affordable and practical choice for Californians,” said Blumenfield.  “Getting past ‘range anxiety’ is essential for this technology to be embraced by commuters.  Accelerated vehicle recharging can help and we must make it more affordable. A few thousand dollars out of pocket is a barrier that we can overcome with this bill.”

Blumenfield is also authoring a bill that would give EV drivers free access to toll lanes, which are multiplying on California’s jam-packed freeways.
