Volvo Penta and TICO partner to develop e-trucks

Volvo Penta has joined forces with terminal tractor manufacturer TICO to develop electric terminal truck prototypes. Terminal tractors, also known as yard goats, are used to move cargo in ports, distribution centers, and rail terminals. They are considered an ideal application for EVs.

“TICO has always been at the forefront of bringing alternative powertrain solutions to the market,” said TICO General Manager Frank Tubbert. “We recognized the need for an EV application and wanted a partner who could deliver electric power solutions, characterized by proven technology and backed by a trusted brand and superior support. We found all this and more in Volvo Penta.”

Volvo Penta is also working with OEM Rosenbauer to develop an electric fire truck.
