Oops, we didn’t mean to leave Ford out of our post about June EV sales. The company sold 89 Focus Electrics in the US in June, bringing the total sold year-to-date to 97. The company also reported that it has produced 763 units of the new electric hatchback.
If those figures sound tiny, remember that the Focus Electric remains in a test marketing phase. It’s currently on sale at only 67 dealers, in California, New York and New Jersey. Ford plans to make it available in 19 US markets by summer’s end, and nationwide by the end of the year.
Ford’s figures actually sound promising compared to those for the Nissan LEAF, which Ford has squarely identified as the Focus Electric’s competitor. The LEAF, which went on sale in the US at the end of 2010, sold a paltry 535 units in June, down 69% from June 2011.
