Seat Cupra el-Born: a hatchback so hot, it’s electric

Seat, a Spanish brand owned by the Volkswagen Group, has unveiled the production version of a new electric “hot hatch,” and car guys are salivating.

The Cupra el-Born, first shown as a concept last year, is built on VW’s MEB platform. It boasts an aggressive design, and a sporty and minimalist interior. “Besides the attention to detail and the passion for quality, Cupra put a particular focus on the sustainability of the el-Born, using recycled materials in the interior of the car,” says Seat.

Electrek surmises that the Cupra el-Born has similar specs to the higher-trim VW ID.3, albeit in a sportier package. It also boasts a unique Dynamic Chassis Control, which was developed especially for the el-Born.

“The Cupra el-Born features state of the art technologies such as a Head-up Display with Augmented Reality. It will be able to travel up to 500 km on a single charge thanks to its 77 kWh battery (gross: 82 kWh). Thanks to its fast charging capability, the CUPRA el-Born will take the energy needed for at least 260 km in only 30 minutes.”

The Cupra el-Born will be produced at VW’s Zwickau EV factory, and is to enter production next year. No pricing information has been offered.
