The GE WattStation Wall Mount is a level-2 charger that can fill a 24-kWh battery in four to eight hours, and it’s suitable for both indoor and outdoor locations. It’s compatible with the SAE J1772 standard, so it works with the Volt, the Leaf, the new Prius plug-in, and most other contemporary EV models.

“As demand and interest in the GE WattStation continues to grow, we’re excited to give our customers an easy way to purchase the charger,” said GE spokesman Sergio Corbo. “We believe the product is well-suited to an online purchasing experience.”

Well, maybe. Electrical experts recommend that any charger be connected to a dedicated 240-volt circuit, so most EV buyers will be calling a professional electrician at some point. As EVs start to catch on, we expect most dealerships to offer a charger and installation as part of an optional package with a new car.
