Efficient Drivetrains, Inc. (EDI), in partnership with truck manufacturer Shaanxi Automotive, is introducing a PHEV cement mixer truck to the Chinese market.
The vehicle integrates EDI’s PowerDrive 8000 PHEV drivetrain and PowerSuite vehicle control software into a Shaanxi Class 8, 32-ton mixer truck. It is currently in the final stages of integration and testing, and is to be delivered by the end of 2017.
“We continue to see a trend towards the electrification of medium- and heavy duty-trucks across the globe,” said EDI CEO Joerg Ferchau. “Our partnerships, like [the one with] Shaanxi, and platform deployments on other major OEMs like Freightliner, Peterbilt, GM, Ford and International, have positioned the company well to capture market share.”
“The China government is working to an aggressive timetable to phase out fossil-fuel powered vehicles, which has resulted in a paramount time for EDI,” said Taylor Yu, Head of China Development. “Our development organization in China is a testament to our ability to rapidly design and build electrified vehicles for some of the world’s largest OEMs.”
