Daimler and BYD have been building new energy vehicles for the Chinese market under the DENZA brand since 2014. Now their joint venture, BYD Shenzhen Daimler New Technology (BDNT), has introduced a new EV with a range of up to 400 km (249 miles).
The DENZA 400 features an upgraded battery – capacity has been increased from 47.5 kWh to 62 kWh while maintaining the original size. It also sports a 135 kW (peak) / 68 kW (rated) motor that delivers 300 N·m (peak) or 177 N·m (rated) of torque.
The new model is manufactured at BDNT’s independent production line at the BYD base in Shenzhen.
“Already offering safe, reliable and convenient electric vehicles from and for China, the DENZA 400 with upgraded range offers our Chinese customers a further improved driving experience,” said Daimler Board Member Hubertus Troska. “We are confident about the future prospect of new energy vehicles in the country.”
