Australian petrol station chain to install chargers at 100 sites

Australian petrol giant Ampol plans to deploy DC fast chargers at more than 100 of its retail sites around the country, as part of a $100-million commitment towards future energy projects.

The first charging sites will be located in the greater Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth regions, as well as regional centers, including Newcastle, Wollongong, NSW’s Central Coast, Queensland’s Gold and Sunshine Coasts, and Geelong in Victoria.

The network will feature 50 kW dual chargers, with electricity supplied by either renewable or certified green energy. Installation is set to start this year. The Australian Renewable Energy Agency is co-funding the project with a contribution of $7 million.

“Electric vehicles will play a critical role in reducing emissions across Australia’s transport sector over the coming years,” said Ampol Managing Director and CEO Matt Halliday. “Ampol’s national retail network, along Australia’s major highways and close to existing high-traffic roads, closely matches our country’s population, and is strategically located to help minimize range anxiety for EV users.”
