Startup automaker NextEV has Chinese financial backing, Tesla alumni on staff, a few years of experience on the Formula E racing circuit, and a 1 MW electric supercar in development.

Electrek recently got a glimpse of the next EV going through its paces on the famous Nürburgring racetrack in Germany. The million-dollar supercar is expected to be unveiled in a few weeks, and to go into limited production shortly thereafter.

Following the accepted model, the company will use this exclusive vehicle as a test bed for EV technology that will find its way into future mass-market models. Earlier this year, NextEV announced plans to build a $465-million factory in the Nanjing region of China.

Meanwhile, the California DMV has granted NextEV an Autonomous Vehicle Testing Permit, allowing the company to test its autonomy features in real-world situations.

“Our new autonomous vehicle permit will now allow us to gather more data to perfect our intelligent, electric vehicles for the road,” said the company’s US CEO, Padmasree Warrior.
