EVgo and ABB deploy 150 kW DC fast charging station for industry testing

EVgo, which owns and operates a network of over 900 DC fast chargers, has partnered with electrical conglomerate ABB to deploy a high-power fast charging station in Fremont, California for testing purposes. The new ABB-built charger features a maximum charging rate of 150 kW, three times faster than most current units.

As automakers develop higher-power hardware and service standards, EVgo will use the station for industry coordination and testing, making it available to automakers on request. It will also provide a demonstration platform for electrical certification committees and building code officials.

The charger will not be open to the public, though it resides at one of the nation’s busiest public fast charging sites.

The installed system has the capability to be upgraded to 350 kW.

“Our goal is to enable improved fast charging service in the future, helping our automotive OEM partners provide even more convenient and appealing options to their customers,” said EVgo VP Terry O’Day.
