The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has approved Boston-based XL Hybrids as a vendor under the state’s Heavy Duty Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP). Fleet buyers of XL Hybrids’ aftermarket van conversions will now be eligible for vouchers from the state: $2,500 each for the first 100 vehicles, and $2,000 each for the second 100 vehicles per fleet.
XL Hybrids’ XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System converts GM 2500 and 3500 passenger and cargo vans into hybrid vehicles. According to the company, the system increases mpg by approximately 25 percent, and can be installed in less than six hours.
“It’s easy for fleets to take advantage of the HVIP program with XL Hybrids because we do all the heavy lifting,” said COO Clay Siegert. “GM vans can be conveniently and efficiently upfitted with our XL3 system through partner installation facilities across California. Once the conversion is completed, XL Hybrids submits the voucher paperwork on behalf of the fleet.”
