SPX and Aker Wade partner to develop new EV fast chargers

SPX Service Solutions and Aker Wade Power Technologies announced that they will team up to develop a new family of commercial-grade charging stations.

The market for EV chargers is heating up like an overloaded circuit – companies and governments around the world will be rolling out hundreds of them in the months ahead, and over a dozen brands were on display at the recent Detroit Auto Show. Last week another manufacturer joined the fray, as SPX Service Solutions and Aker Wade Power Technologies announced that they will team up to develop a new family of commercial-grade charging stations.

The new wall-mounted units are aimed at vehicle dealerships, and will use an ergonomically-designed handle with an SAE-compatible connector that provides Level 1, 2, and DC fast charging for any EV. They’re expected to be available by early 2013.

“DC fast charge infrastructure will reduce range anxiety, which will encourage the more widespread adoption of EVs. With SPX’s global presence and Aker Wade’s expertise in fast charging, we can offer a solution that will allow dealer networks to play an active role in EV sales and customer service,” said Tanvir Arfi, President of SPX.
