Rome’s public transit agency to buy 400 Iveco electric buses

Rome’s public transport company ATAC (Azienda per la mobilità) has ordered 411 battery-electric city buses from Italian manufacturer Iveco. The €300-million deal, Iveco’s largest electric bus order to date, includes a 10-year, full-service maintenance plan for each bus.

Rome’s new buses include both 12- and 18-meter models The first are scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2024, and the rest are to be in service by summer 2026.

Iveco first showed its E-way electric bus at a 2019 trade show, where it demonstrated an impressive 325-mile range.

“Our increasingly strong offering in the field of electric passenger transport is being recognized across the entire Italian market, and internationally as well,” said Domenico Nucera, President, Bus Business Unit, Iveco Group. This agreement confirms our position as a leader in full electric mobility solutions and proves that we are the ideal partner for transport operators in providing emission-free mobility services.”
