Full Circle Lithium meets lithium-ion battery fire extinguishing standard

Full Circle Lithium, a US-based lithium products manufacturer, has attained the Dutch Standard Designation Nederlandse Technische Afspraak (NTA) 8133 for its FCL-X specialty battery fire extinguishing agent.

NTA 8133, which specifies standards for testing suppression agents for lithium-ion battery fires, includes chargeable batteries for electronics, radio-controlled objects, drones, and e-bikes.

Lithium-ion battery fires are the result of thermal runaway that occurs when lithium-ion batteries hit a temperature of approximately 60° C, releasing toxic gases and igniting. FCL-X was designed to extinguish and mitigate the hazards of lithium-ion battery fires and quickly cool additional cells in the battery module.

“Based on industry feedback, we wanted to demonstrate, via the NTA 8133 (which is the highest measurable global standard available), the effectiveness of our FCL-X portable fire extinguisher on lithium-ion  battery fires,” Carlos Vicens, the company’s founder and CEO, said.
