Hankering for a hatchback? Eager to go electric? Looking to lease? You’ll soon be able to choose among three models for $199 a month. Chevrolet has announced that it will offer a “low mileage” lease on the new 2014 Spark EV 1LT with similar terms to those available for the popular Nissan LEAF and the soon-to-be-launched Fiat 500e.
The Spark EV will be available at select dealers in California and Oregon in mid-June. MSRP starts at $27,495, but it can also be had for $199 per month (for 36 months, $999 due at signing). There’s one catch: this is a “low mileage” lease, and will cost an extra 25 cents per mile for each mile over 12,000 per year (the Nissan and Fiat offerings have similar mileage limitations).
The Spark EV features an EPA-estimated range of 82 miles and combined fuel economy of 119 MPGe. The 21 kWh lithium-ion battery pack comes with an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty.
The Spark EV will be the first vehicle on the market to offer optional compatibility with the new SAE combo charger for DC Fast Charging. Chevy claims that, unlike most competitors, the Spark EV’s battery can handle multiple DC Fast Charges daily.
“The Chevrolet Spark EV is the most efficient – and now one of the most affordable – EVs you can buy” said Chevy VP Chris Perry. “Combined with outstanding infotainment and great design, the fun-to-drive Spark EV is engineered to impress.”
