Baton Rouge to add three BYD electric buses to its fleet

Battery-electric bus builder BYD has received an order for three K9S electric buses from Baton Rouge, Louisiana’s Capital Area Transit System (CATS), which operates 29 bus lines and provides over 2 million rides annually. The new e-buses will go into operation later this year.

BYD’s K9S has a range of 150 miles and a capacity of up to 32 passengers, depending on configuration. According to the company, it will save about $1.00 per mile in operating costs compared to a typical diesel bus.

“These buses will allow us to see how we can use electric buses to reduce the impact of our fleet on our environment and also control costs,” said Bill Deville, CATS CEO.

“In every corner of the continent, we are witnessing rapid growth in the electrification of bus fleets,” said BYD Senior VP Macy Neshati. “Whether you are looking at the hot and humid climates of the Deep South, the wet weather of the Northwest or the frigid climates of the North, BYD buses are workhorses that can handle any condition.”
