Yellow machine icon Caterpillar has announced the development of 48-volt, 300-volt and 600-volt batteries for the off-highway equipment industry.
The company’s new range of Li-ion batteries features a modular design to optimize performance and packaging, and has been engineered with lifecycle sustainability in mind, including reuse and recycling at the end of life.
Caterpillar’s development program, which will initially focus on battery solutions for industrial equipment, also encompasses inverters, motors, electronic controls, digital services and other related technologies.
Caterpillar will showcase prototypes of its battery technologies at the upcoming bauma 2022 trade show in Munich.
“Caterpillar has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to sustainability,” said Steve Ferguson, Senior VP of Caterpillar Industrial Power Systems. “Today’s announcement of our battery program is our latest step in combining a wide-ranging inventory of innovations with extensive knowledge of the off-highway industry to offer solutions for a range of power needs, application types, duty cycles and operating environments.”
