Volvo and Putzmeister showcase battery-electric concrete pump truck

Volvo Trucks and German manufacturer Putzmeister have developed an electric concrete pump truck to be delivered to the Swedish construction company Swerock.

The concrete pump was developed in response to a request from Swerock, which is a long-time customer of Volvo Trucks.

The four-axle electric pump truck has a total weight of 32 tonnes and a reach of 42 meters. It can drive up to 50 km and then pump approximately 50 cubic meters of concrete without the need for recharging. For longer distances, or for larger quantities of concrete, a Combined Charging System (CCS2) charging solution with 63 A or 32 A can be installed at the site to keep pumping the concrete while the truck is being recharged.

“With this battery-electric pump truck, customers can have a low-noise operation and an efficient process thanks to the work-while-charging capacity,” said Christoph Fitz, Head of Sales at Volvo Trucks in Germany.

Volvo Trucks aid it can now offer construction customers an electric alternative for the handling of concrete, from transporting to mixing and pumping.

The Volvo FM Electric 8×4 Rigid Tag Tridem has two electric motors, delivering continuous output of 330 kW, and an I-Shift gearbox. The battery system contains four batteries in a specially developed energy storage system. The total capacity is 360 kWh, of which 250 kWh is usable.
