Power Integrations introduces new line of gate-driver boards

Integrated circuit maker Power Integrations has introduced a new line of gate-driver boards designed for electric buses and trucks as well as electric construction and agricultural equipment.

The SCALE EV gate-driver boards are rated at 1,200 V for 400 V and 800 V systems. Each is composed of two reinforced gate-drive channels, associated power supplies and monitoring telemetry.

The first product in the line is the 2SP0215F2Q0C, which is designed for the EconoDUAL 900 A, 1,200 V IGBT and half-bridge module. Samples are available now.

Housed in an ASIC package, SCALE EV gate-driver boards include 11.4 mm of creepage and clearance, and microcontroller input and output lines that are connected through two independent on-board connectors.

SCALE EV products are ASIL B and C certified.

“Gate-driver design is critical to both the performance and reliability of electric vehicles,” said Director of Automotive Business Development Peter Vaughan. “By offering a product [for which] the development, testing and qualification, plus ASIL certification, have already been done, we are dramatically reducing development time and cost.”

The SCALE EV products support SiC MOSFETS and silicon IGBTs, and include many protections, including active short-circuit, active discharge of the connected DC-link capacitor, overvoltage limitation through active gate control, gate monitoring, signal transmission monitoring, on-chip temperature monitoring and short-circuit and overcurrent responses that are less than one microsecond for SiC MOSFETS and less than three microseconds for IGBTs.

The company says a full production of the first product in the line will be released in the fourth quarter of 2022.
