FPT’s new eBS 37 EVO battery pack earns certification under the EU Batteries Regulation

FPT, the powertrain brand of Iveco Group, has earned certification under the EU Batteries Regulation (EU 2023/1542) for its eBS 37 EVO, a battery pack for light commercial vehicles, minibuses and pleasure boats.

The certification will become mandatory for every European battery manufacturer once EU 2023/1542 takes full effect. FPT says it has complied since 2024.

The eBS 37 EVO is a 37 kWh water-cooled modular pack built from NMC 811 lithium-ion cells, with a nominal voltage of 355 V and specific energy of 140 Wh/kg. It weighs 260 kg, and carries IP6K9K and IP67 protection ratings. Continuous C-rates are 1C on charge and 2C on discharge, and up to four packs can run in parallel, or two in series. FPT rates the pack for 2,500 cycles and pairs it with its own eBM 5 battery management system. It meets ECE R100.4 and ECE R10 safety standards and is battery passport-ready.

The audit, conducted by TÜV SÜD Denmark, doubled as a pilot. TÜV SÜD Denmark used FPT, along with Iveco Group’s own vehicle and battery homologation body, to demonstrate that it could properly audit a battery manufacturer.

“FPT demonstrated strong readiness ahead of schedule by passing the audit,” said Simone Gianoglio, who handles vehicle and battery homologation for Iveco Group. “We were specifically chosen by TÜV SÜD as a pilot audit.”

“At FPT, we have seen a highly motivated and very professional team that has fully committed to embedding quality in the manufacturing process,” said Yalcin Ölmez, Lead Auditor for the EU Batteries Regulation at TÜV SÜD Denmark. “What we have seen is battery production that meets the highest standards.”
