Revel, Fermata and NineDot launch grid-connected V2G system in NYC

E-mobility and infrastructure provider Revel, clean energy developer NineDot Energy and V2G innovator Fermata Energy have launched a vehicle-to-grid (V2G) project that they say is the first one to be connected to New York City’s electrical grid.

The bidirectional charging system, which is now live at Revel’s Red Hook, Brooklyn warehouse, can both charge EVs and discharge energy from the EVs’ batteries to Con Edison’s grid.

NineDot and Fermata activated the V2G system following a successful testing program conducted over the summer. The V2G system currently operates with Nissan LEAs, and the companies aim to incorporate more EV models as V2G technology becomes more available.

The system uses three Fermata bidirectional chargers operating on a cloud-based platform, and can export approximately 45 kW back to the grid.. Based on the interconnection agreement with Con Edison, the chargers send energy stored in vehicle batteries back to the grid from 2-6 pm, during local energy demand peaks.
