it’s electric to expand its curbside EV charging network to seven US cities

A consensus is emerging that curbside charging is the solution to the Dilemma of the Drivewayless Drivers, and startup it’s electric is zeroing in on this market. (Read the feature article in our July-September 2024 issue.)

Now the company has announced seven cities for the first year of its nationwide rollout: Boston, Los Angeles, Jersey City, Washington DC, San Francisco, Detroit and Yonkers, New York.

it’s electric has a novel business model: it provides curbside Level 2 charging posts at no cost to property owners or cities. The company owns, operates and maintains the chargers, which connect behind the meter to draw spare electrical supply from adjacent buildings, eliminating the need for new utility connections.

Drivers bring their own detachable J3068 charging cables (the same standard used in the EU and the UK). This eliminates the problem of cable theft and keeps streets free of cables when cars are not actively charging.
