GreenPower’s BEAST electric Type D school bus features an integrated body and chassis design

GreenPower Motor Company (NASDAQ: GP), a manufacturer of EVs serving the cargo and delivery, shuttle, transit and school bus markets, unveiled a new purpose-built electric school bus at the recent Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in Long Beach, California.

The BEAST (Battery Electric Automotive School Transportation) is a 40-foot Type D battery-electric school bus that can seat up to 90 passengers. It features a 194 kWh battery pack, and boasts a range of up to 150 miles. Standard features include air ride suspension, ABS disk brakes and pass-through storage.

The BEAST is built on a monocoque chassis, and its seamlessly integrated body and chassis design forms a composite structure. GreenPower says its school buses offer a significant increase in strength and battery weight distribution thanks to their structurally superior integrated purpose-built design.

GreenPower increased its school bus production from 5 to 10 units per month at the beginning of this year, and expects to increase production rates over time as interest in electric school buses accelerates rapidly throughout the country.

GreenPower will begin initial deliveries of the BEAST to customers under existing contracts in the coming weeks, and anticipates that the pace of these deliveries will increase significantly by the end of the year.

“The BEAST will provide school districts with dramatic fuel cost savings, reduced operational costs and material progress towards reducing their carbon footprint,” said Fraser Atkinson, CEO of GreenPower.
