European charging network operator Fastned has formed a joint venture with Transport for London (TfL) property company Places for London to deliver up to 25 EV fast charging hubs across the city by 2030.
Fastned and Places for London will jointly invest £16 million in developing charging hubs at an initial five sites in London along busy routes at Hanger Lane, Canning Town, Hatton Cross, Tottenham Hale and Hillingdon Circus. These sites will add more than 70 charging bays providing charging speeds up to 400 kW. A proportion of the revenue from each of the first five charging hubs will go towards community projects to benefit local residents.
The joint venture intends to add a further 20 sites by the end of the decade and has the potential to increase this to up to 65 hubs over the partnership’s lifetime depending on market demand and opportunities. Fastned plans to invest at least £30 million.
“The expansion of EV infrastructure is essential to helping London bring pollution levels down and cleaning up the capital’s air. We are partnering with ultra-rapid charging company Fastned to offer more people and businesses the confidence to make the transition to cleaner vehicles,” said Mark Farrow, Director of Strategy and Planning at Places for London.
