Enterprise Rent-A-Car has announced plans to install OpConnect EV charging stations at their Santa Monica and Torrance, California locations. The new stations feature a quad port design that allows four vehicles to recharge at the same time. Charging will be restricted to Enterprise’s customers.
Enterprise claims to operate the largest network of EV rentals in California, with EVs available at 12 locations. The company has previously announced the addition of Chevy Volts, Nissan LEAFs and Coda Sedans to its fleet. Of course, as any frequent car renter knows, no company can guarantee the availability of any particular model.
For rental companies, EVs are still very much in the test-marketing phase, as Enterprise’s Greg Tabak made clear, saying, “our partnership with OpConnect enhances our ability to provide customers with the ultimate test drive when renting an electrical vehicle. Partnerships like this help manufacturers conduct hundreds of thousands of test drives that are essential to the adoption of new technology.”
