Daimler Buses has won a contract to plan and construct a complete electric bus depot and associated charging infrastructure as a general contractor. The client is the newly founded transit agency MOIN (Mobilitätsinfrastruktur und -betriebs Landkreis Lüneburg) in Lüneburg, Germany.
The depot will be built on a greenfield site in the industrial area at the port of the city of Lüneburg, and is scheduled to start operations in early 2026. Daimler Buses bears responsibility for all planning and construction services, and will execute the project in cooperation with local subcontractors. The investment amount for the overall project is 9.6 million euros.
The depot will have 20 charging points for electric buses, two transformers including a transfer station, and a photovoltaic system to cover a large part of the power requirements. There will also be an office and social building, a central scheduling department, an electric bus workshop and a vehicle washing facility.
The depot will exclusively serve Mercedes-Benz eCitaro electric buses. Daimler Buses will deliver a total of 20 eCitaro solo and articulated buses to MOIN, all of which are scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2026.
Each of the solo buses has five battery packs, which deliver a range of 300 to 350 km; each articulated bus has seven battery packs, and a range of 250 to 300 km. The buses will be supplied with contact rails in the roof area to prepare for future pantograph charging concepts.
