ABB launches new AC and DC fast charging station

The new charger supports the CHAdeMO standard, and features an attached AC charging cable. It is now on sale throughout Europe.

Swiss electronics giant ABB has launched the Terra Smart Connect Duo, a 22 kW AC and DC fast charging station. The new charger supports the CHAdeMO standard, and features an attached AC charging cable (EN 61851-1:2010). It is now on sale throughout Europe. Later this year ABB will offer an optional AC wall box satellite system, which will allow the charger to be easily expanded, and make it compatible with any plug-in vehicle.

The cloud-connected Terra SC Duo is compatible with any charging network or payment and billing platform through open standards-based interfaces such as the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP), enabling payments via smart phone, parking management terminals, RFID or PIN code access. Connectivity features allow remote monitoring, maintenance and upgrades.

“We believe it is important to offer an equal user experience to owners of both DC and AC fast chargeable cars regardless of connection standard and communication protocols,” said ABB’s Hans Streng. “ABB will support all relevant charging standards that are adopted by multiple carmakers.”
