Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer Scania, a unit of Volkswagen, launched a new battery-electric tipper truck as part of its introduction of new hybrid and all-electric off-highway solutions for mining and construction during the 34th bauma trade fair in Munich.

The new Scania BEV XT Tipper with tandem bogie will combine “high performance with sustainability,” the company said. “It’s a timely response to the emissions challenges facing the construction sector.”

A tipper truck’s function is to lift and transport loose materials such as asphalt, construction aggregate, dirt, grain, gravel, sand, snow and wood chips in bulk efficiently around a worksite. When raised, a bogie dramatically reduces a vehicle’s turning radius.

Scania uses the letters XT to denote a range of vehicles that can “withstand challenging surroundings, securing uptime and boosting productivity,” according to its web site.         

The company introduced a range of new all-electric and hybrid power systems for the construction and mining sectors at the event.

The bauma (bauma is shorthand in German for Baumaschinen, or construction equipment) is a triennial trade show that offers an opportunity for companies to show off their newest innovations in off-highway electric vehicles to the construction machinery, building material machinery, mining machinery and construction industries.
