Bus OEM New Flyer of America, a subsidiary of the NFI Group, is now offering the option of adding a seventh and eighth battery string to its 60-foot electric Xcelsior CHARGE NG model, which was introduced in 2021. According to NFI, this 33% increase in energy storage capacity adds approximately 46 miles of range.
New Flyer plans to begin demonstrating the newly configured model this month. The company says that its large passenger capacity and enhanced range make it especially suited for high-volume routes and bus rapid transit (BRT) applications.
“The viability of transit solutions such as BRTs depends on the availability of vehicles that can meet the service requirements they create,” said Chris Stoddart, President, North American Bus and Coach, NFI. “These new battery options on the Xcelsior CHARGE NG 60-foot bus allow NFI to address those requirements and the continuously growing demand for long-range zero-emission transit.”
