Gore’s new battery pack evacuation vent combines a flexible membrane and waterproof design

Gore launched its new Low Pressure Evacuation Vent at a recent battery show. The company says the vent will help reduce the volume, weight, and cost of next-generation battery packs for EVs and hybrids.

The vent combines a flexible membrane and waterproof design, which Gore said has benefits that include:

  • A low opening pressure
  • Management of over-pressures associated with thermal runaway of a single cell or module
  • Pressure equalization
  • Protection against water, dirt, and dust intrusion

Peter Hils, Project Manager at Gore, said, “We continue to hear that designing the optimal pack with the right weight and cost profile is an ongoing challenge for battery pack designers. The GORE Low Pressure Evacuation Vent is an exciting development for battery pack designers, who will now be able to design more reliable battery packs with thinner, lighter, and potentially lower cost materials.”
