North Lincolnshire Council has appointed ubitricity to install and manage a network of 35 on-street charge points across the borough. The charge points will use the power supply from streetlights, and provide charging power of up to 5 kW. Their locations are to be suggested by residents.

The roll-out is planned for residential communities where the majority of residents park on the street. A study commissioned by the Department for Transport published in March 2022 showed that the public wants to charge their vehicles at or near home, which can be difficult for the 8 million households in the UK that don’t have access to off-street or private parking.

In 2022 North Lincolnshire Council pledged to become carbon-neutral by 2030, and one of its key aims is to increase EV adoption in the area.

“Residents are now becoming more conscious of their carbon footprints, [and] more people are converting to EVs to contribute to improving emission levels,” said Councillor Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council.
