Two Ford execs have addressed the recent revelations that its 2013 C-Max Hybrid and Fusion Hybrid fell short of their EPA mileage ratings in real-world tests done by Consumer Reports and others.

Ford continues to raise the profile of its hybrid and electric offerings, announcing this week that the building formerly known as the Advanced Engineering Center has been renamed the Ford Advanced Electrification Center. Previously, hybrid transmission production was handled by a supplier in Japan. By bringing the development work in-house, Ford reduced development costs by 20 percent.
Upcoming models that will use Panasonic cells include the Fusion and C-Max hybrids, as well as the Fusion Energi and C-Max Energi PHEVs.
Ford holds nearly 500 patents for various hybrid-engine related technologies, and it plans on putting them to good use.
The plug-in hybrid model is called the Fusion Energi, and it will have a 1.6-liter gas engine, a lithium ion battery pack, and a fuel efficiency rating of more than 100 MPGe.
