Vermont’s Agency of Transportation has selected the nonprofit Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) to develop and administer a suite of clean transportation incentive programs for state residents.
Vermont is the seventh state to select CSE to manage a clean transportation incentive program. CSE’s role encompasses program design, incentive management, customer support, dealer education and creating online platforms.
The new programs, authorized by the 2021 Vermont Transportation Bill (Act 55):
- The Incentive Program for New PEVs has a budget of $3 million. Launched in late 2019, the program offers incentives of $1,500 to $4,000 for the lease or purchase of new plug-in vehicles (higher amounts require low-income eligibility).
- The Replace Your Ride Program will have a budget of $1.5 million. An income-qualified program will be developed to offer incentives of $3,000 to scrap vehicles more than 10 years old and replace them with cleaner transportation.
- A budget of $50,000 has been allocated to establish an electric bike incentive.
“Our mission is to help government agencies at all levels to achieve their goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation and provide a healthier environment for their constituents,” said Mark Bielecki, CSE Senior Director of Transportation Programs. “We are eager to make it easier for Vermonters to switch to electric vehicles and other modes of clean transportation.”
