New Flyer Industries Canada has won an order from the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) for ten forty-foot electric Xcelsior CHARGE transit buses, with an option to purchase up to 30 additional buses over the next two years.
TTC is the third-largest transit system in North America, operating more than 140 bus routes, as well as subways, streetcars and the Wheel-Trans service for persons with disabilities.
The agency plans to buy only emission-free buses starting in 2025, and to transform its bus fleet to 100% zero-emissions by 2040. TTC announced an order of 10 Proterra electric buses last week.
New Flyer was one of three candidates invited to collaborate with TTC in the evaluation of battery-electric buses. The collaboration will assist TTC with the development of bus specifications and the integration of future e-bus procurements.
