Tecman unveils anti-thermal propagation innovation

Tecman, a UK-based material engineering company, has devised a technology for high-volume continuous production of Framed Anti-Thermal Propagation (ATP) Pads.

Tecman has developed a single continuous production process that enables it to manufacture Framed ATP Pads—an enhanced cell barrier technology that incorporates a built-in spacer to surround the insulation pad and help prevent thermal propagation. Tecman stated that its production method removes third-party pre-conversion and enables manufacturing speeds of up to 120 parts per minute per machine, reducing costs. Framed ATP Pads for prismatic and pouch cell solutions will be customizable so customers can use their own materials.

“The manufacturing system will give OEMs access to an optimized cell barrier solution. It enables all of the benefits of the optimized cell barrier at a cost-effective level and with the assurance of meeting capacity requirements. This is made possible through the high-efficiency design which maximizes material utilization. Framed ATP Pads have been so complicated to manufacture that it has prohibited the development of this design to date,” Kevin Porter, Technical Director at Tecman, said.
