Torqeedo’s new Cruise 10.0 R electric outboard motor

Torqeedo

Marine propulsion specialist Torqeedo has introduced the most powerful member of its Cruise line of electric outboard motors. The Cruise 10.0 R is intended to fill the gap between the company’s smaller Ultralight and Travel outboards and its larger Deep Blue high-voltage motors.

The Cruise 10.0 R operates at 48 volts, and delivers 12 kW peak and 10 kW continuous input power, comparable to a 20 hp combustion engine.

The motor itself is housed underwater in an aluminum pylon, and is cooled naturally by the surrounding water. The head features a stylish low-profile design.

Integrated GPS and an onboard computer deliver information about speed, power consumption and remaining range on the included remote throttle display. Torqeedo’s TorqTrac app can display motor information on a Bluetooth-equipped smartphone.

At $7,999 (batteries not included), this outboard is not for the bass fisherman. It’s aimed at luxury tenders and commercial boat operators with high fuel costs.
