Seattle mayor christens 156 new charging stations at municipal parking garage

2015 Kia Soul EV

Seattle Mayor Jenny A. Durkan cut the ribbon on 156 new city-owned charging stations at the Seattle Municipal Tower parking garage. The new chargers join 32 existing ones to make one of the largest indoor charging facilities in the country.

The new stations support the continuing electrification of the city’s fleet, which now includes more than 200 plug-in vehicles and 300 hybrids. Seattle was one of the first cities in the US to deploy hybrids and Nissan LEAFs. Its Green Fleet Action Plan has reduced fleet lifecycle greenhouse gases by 11.5% and total fuel use by 5% over three years (2013-2016), while adding 150 new vehicles.

The city of Seattle is arguably one of the most experienced EV charging installers in the region, having installed hundreds of charging stations for fleet use at municipal facilities throughout the city.
