Monta and GridBeyond collaborate to help stabilize UK power grid

A partnership between Danish EV charging platform Monta and Dublin energy-management technology company GridBeyond has registered its first 2,000 EV charge points into the UK’s Static Firm Frequency Response (SFFR).

The SFFR is a preventative service in the UK electricity grid by which a predetermined quantity of power is automatically injected into the system when the grid frequency reaches a specified trigger point. It acts as a rapid-response mechanism to stabilize the grid and prevent blackouts during sudden imbalances between supply and demand.

Through Monta’s PowerBank feature, thousands of the company’s EV charge points, which are often concentrated in urban areas where they generate high electricity demand in specific locations, are connected to the grid and are available to be deployed as demand-side assets in SFFR programs while also earning users Monta Wallet credits as a reward.

“This partnership, which is set to see a further 1,500 registrations in the next few weeks, is a step toward ensuring that EV adoption does not compromise energy reliability but instead enhances it, demonstrating that EV charge points are more than just plug-in stations—they are critical energy assets helping to shape a more efficient, stable and sustainable grid,” said Monta Grid Services Product Manager Alex Iriondo.
