Mitsubishi demonstrates new V2G system in Amsterdam

Mitsubishi has implemented a new Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) pilot in Amsterdam, based on its Outlander PHEV. Partners in the project include smart charging specialist NewMotion, Dutch grid operator TenneT, and V2G developer Nuvve.

For the demonstration, Mitsubishi will provide services for capacity reserve and balancing services, using NewMotion’s charging infrastructure and an Outlander PHEV linked to Nuvve’s Grid Integrated Vehicle platform (GIVe).

V2G technology can be used to balance demand on the electricity grid by allowing EVs not just to take power from the grid, but also to return it to the network.  In this pilot, Mitsubishi aims to validate its V2G technology, and demonstrate a potential new income opportunity for EV drivers.
