LeeBoy collaborates with Portable Electric to electrify the paving industry

LeeBoy, a manufacturer of commercial asphalt paving equipment, and Portable Electric (PE), a manufacturer of portable and mobile e-Chargers and e-Generators, are working together to advance the electrification of the paving industry.

LeeBoy’s 8520C E-Paver, which was introduced at the recent ConExpo trade show, is a commercial-class electric asphalt paver. The prototype incorporates various EV components and propulsion technologies supplied by GM, and was developed with engineering assistance from Engine Power Source and Powertrain Control Solutions.

During a recent demonstration, LeeBoy used Portable Electric’s Voltstack 30k, an all-in-one mobile site power and equipment charger, to charge the 8520C E-Paver. The two companies are collaborating to explore future solutions for paving electrification.

Voltstack mobile electric equipment chargers are designed to provide a versatile on-site power solution at construction job sites. The silent, emission-free Voltstack 30k e-Charger offers a range of charging solutions. Its Smart Hybrid feature is designed to seamlessly integrate with gas or diesel generators, optimizing efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.

“The Voltstack ecosystem will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of our electric equipment and maximizing uptime on our construction projects,” said Chris Broome, Senior Product Manager at LeeBoy. “Today, with the Voltstack Level 2 e-Charger, we have the ability to recharge the paver for 15 minutes at Level 2 and get an extra 19 tonnes of asphalt. In terms of future solutions, Level 3 [DC fast charging] is critical to our success. With Level 3 charging, the same 15-minute charging window will lead to an additional 57 tonnes of asphalt. That extra production will be game-changing.”
