Mercedes recently completed a yearlong pilot of an electric delivery truck in Portugal. The Fuso Canter E-Cell. The eight vehicles logged 51,500 kilometers in day-to-day usage with two municipal governments, a delivery service and the national postal service.
The Fuso Canter E-Cell, which is based on the chassis of the conventional Canter, features a 110 kW/650 Nm electric motor from UQM Technologies, a single-speed transmission, and four battery packs. The lithium-ion batteries have a nominal capacity of 48.4 kWh, giving the truck a range of about 100 km.
The trial demonstrated savings in operating costs of up to 64 percent compared with a legacy diesel truck.
