Evatran now taking reservations for Plugless Power systems

Orders will be filled starting in the third quarter of 2012. The first 500 customers will receive a $150 rebate card.

Evatran announced today that it has begun taking online reservations for its Plugless Power wireless EV charging system. Orders will be filled starting in the third quarter of 2012. The first 500 customers will receive a $150 rebate card.

Plugless Power could be a real game-changer, as it makes charging hands- and hassle-free (and, incidentally, far easier than filling a gas tank). You simply park your EV over a pad in your driveway (or in the parking lot of a business), and charging starts and stops automatically.

The system requires a unit on the underside of the vehicle, which will be available as a dealer option on new EVs or as a retrofit. It currently works with the Volt and Leaf, and will be adapted to other EV models as they come on the market. Customers can have Plugless Power installed by Sears Home Services.

"With our online product reservation system opened, we can support our customers' electric vehicle purchases by allowing them to reserve a convenient recharging system online," said Rebecca Hough, COO of Evatran.
