Sometimes range anxiety isn’t all in the mind. Just like legacy vehicles, EVs will occasionally run out of go juice, and when that happens, drivers need help from a roadside assistance vehicle that can provide a charge.
With that in mind, Spain’s Royal Catalan Automobile Club has equipped a roadside assistance car with technology from Barcelona-based charging solution manufacturer Circontrol, which can charge an empty EV battery enough to get to the nearest charging station.
The car, which is still in the testing phase, can charge more than once in every shift and has a system that allows it to reload while moving. Circontrol’s charging system can supply 15 km worth of range in 20 minutes, and is compatible with all current charging modes and connector types.
