BAE Systems and Heart Aerospace to build a battery for a regional electrified airplane

British aerospace company BAE Systems and Swedish electric airplane manufacturer Heart Aerospace will collaborate to create the battery system for Heart’s ES-30 regional electrified airplane.

The ES-30 airplane will be powered by four electric motors. It has an all-electric range of 200 kilometers (124 miles) and an extended reserve hybrid range of 400 kilometers (248 miles), with 30 passengers. It also has the ability to fly up to 800 kilometers (497 miles) with 25 passengers on board.

Heart says it has 230 orders and 100 options for the ES-30, along with a letter of intent for an additional 108 units.

“Our solution builds on decades of expertise delivering technologies and systems needed to progress sustainable transportation,” said Ehtisham Siddiqui, VP and GM of Controls and Avionics Solutions at BAE Systems.
