Voltpost to demonstrate lamppost EV chargers in Connecticut

Curbside EV charging is the solution to the problem of EV drivers who aren’t able to install chargers at their homes. It’s a red-hot field, and one of the companies targeting this market is Voltpost, which makes an EV charging platform that can be retrofitted to existing lampposts.

Now Voltpost has been selected by Connecticut’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) to perform an 18-month project to demonstrate the feasibility of the Voltpost charging platform, in territories served by two regional electric distribution companies: Eversource and United Illuminating (UI), a subsidiary of Avangrid.

Voltpost retrofits lampposts with a modular and upgradable Level 2 EV charging platform. The company says its EV charger can be installed in minutes on an existing public or privately-owned lamppost.

For the Connecticut project, Voltpost will deploy 50 public charging stations, with a total of 100 charging ports. The company will collaborate with UI, Capitol Clean Cities of Connecticut, and Live Green Connecticut to ensure that communities across Connecticut are involved in the site selection process. The partners will assess variables including EV and gas car ownership, transit ridership, existing EV infrastructure, air quality, grid capacity, parking regulations and disadvantaged community datasets. The project is expected to be completed by Q4 2026.

“This deployment will expand access to EV chargers for the people of Connecticut, boosting EV adoption and supporting the state’s transition to a renewable energy-based transportation system,” said Jeffrey Prosserman, CEO and co-founder of Voltpost.

“Our collaboration with Voltpost underscores our commitment to innovative solutions that make EV adoption more convenient, equitable and impactful,” said Sean Sullivan, Director of Clean Energy Policy at Avangrid.
