Rhode Island’s RIPTA orders 14 electric buses, plus EVSE, from New Flyer

New Flyer of America (a subsidiary of the NFI Group) has received a new order from the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) for 14 Xcelsior CHARGE forty-foot heavy-duty electric transit buses. The order includes five ABB 50 kWh depot chargers from NFI Infrastructure Solutions, the company’s infrastructure services division.

NFI offers a wide range of battery-electric and fuel cell buses and coaches, and says it currently has EVs operating or on order in over 80 cities in five countries.

Based in Providence, RIPTA provides public transportation in the State of Rhode Island, and delivers over 11.25 million annual bus rides on 55 bus routes.

“RIPTA is counting on NFI’s advanced mobility and infrastructure solutions to enable the transition to zero-emission vehicles at scale,” said Chris Stoddart, President, North American Bus and Coach. “Our battery-electric buses deliver immediate emissions reduction, which helps fulfil RIPTA’s commitment to sustainability.”
