Electrovaya, a developer and manufacturer of industry-specific lithium-ion battery systems, has announced that a major construction equipment company has placed an order for its high-voltage battery systems.

The order is the second it has received from the Japanese construction industry as well as the second obtained through its partnership with Sumitomo Corporation Power & Mobility, a subsidiary of Sumitomo, one of the largest worldwide sogo shosha, or general trading companies, and a member of the Sumitomo Group.

The orders were placed under Electrovaya’s existing supply agreement with SCPM, Electrovaya said, and will be delivered to the construction equipment company in 2025.

The company’s CEO, Raj DasGupta, said Electrovaya believes that the “competitive advantages with respect to safety and cycle life” that its products offer are responsible for the firm’s continued traction in the Japanese market.
